The finale episode – which featured the marriage of Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick‘s characters Blair and Chuck – revealed the identity of Gossip Girl, something kept secret the entire series.
Actress Kristen Bell may have voiced the notorious XOXO "Gossip Girl" sign-off, but in a surprising series finale twist, Dan Humprey aka Lonely Boy, was revealed as the person behind wreaking havoc on the Upper East Side.
Dan, played by Penn Badgley, explained his reason behind starting the blog, saying, “The Upper East Side was like something from Fitzgerald or Thackeray -- teenagers acting like adults, adults acting like teenagers, guarding secrets, spreading gossip all with the trappings of truly opulent wealth.
The series, created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, originally ran on The CW for six seasons from September 19, 2007, to December 17, 2012.
Narrated by the omniscient blogger "Gossip Girl", voiced by Kristen Bell, the series revolves around the fictional lives of upper-class adolescents living in Manhattan's Upper East Side.
